Family of FIVE!
And life begins as a family of FIVE!!
Most of yesterday was a blur. When I realized none of us had posted anything and friends were texting to check in on us all, I made a quick post just so everyone knew all are well.
Now for more details.
They came to get Hawley about 2:30 yesterday. When they had everything ready Kent was escorted to the operating room. Hawley was able to stay awake this time, unlike with Parker. Kent was able to be in the room and not stuffed in a broom closet somewhere. Yay!!!

Sweet baby Sybil started crying even before she was taken from the warm and cozy home she had been swimming in for the past 7 months. She weighed in at 3 pounds 1 ounce, 16 inches long, born at 3:27.
Sweet baby Addison was a little stubborn and reluctant to be dislodged from her comfy spot. She weighed in at at 3 pounds 10.9 ounces, 16.5 inches long, born at 3:28.
Note: Parker thinks it is hysterical neither baby has on any clothes in these pictures. He is not able to come to the hospital to see the girls because Duke has strict restrictions on visitation due to flu season. Photos have not made them real to him yet.
After delivery they were whisked away to NICU. Hawley spent time in recovery and then back to her room. She texted me late last night and told me she had been "thrown in jail". Because she got sick from her meds they couldn't take her to see the babies. At 3:00 p.m. today she comes off of the magnesium and will be able to go visit those sweet bundles in NICU. Oh, and she can eat again. No food since Monday night and she is hungry!! We are going to get Jersey Mikes right now!
This ends to story of March 5th.
Now for an update on happenings of today.
Both have CPAP - continuous positive airway pressure, a type of respiratory support. Addison has blown the cover off of her isolette this morning. She is doing a great job of regulating her own body temperature so now we have a better view of her. And EVERY time I go to check on her she cries. I think she wants me to hold her!!! She has a purple pacifier that looks HUGE. They say it is the smallest size they make. She has an IV in her hand and yesterday they said it was a sugar water going in. Kent just returned from NICU reporting the most up-to-date information. His first share is that she has LOTS of black hair. The nurse was putting colostrum in her mouth. They are planning to start feeding Addison breast milk this afternoon through a feeding tube that is in her mouth. They are going to start trying to ween her off of the CPCP today.
As for Sybil, she is staying where she is with the volume of air going through her CPAP. She still has a top on her isolette because she doesn't weigh enough to get out. She has to be 1500 grams to go without a top!! Presently she is 1330 grams. Other than that they are both receiving the same care. Sybil is also going to be fed milk today at 2. She lost only 30 grams of weight today.
Thanks to the many family and friends who sent prayers up on our behalf. Your thoughts and positive energy were greatly appreciated. My phone was blowing up all day. By the time I traveled through RTP during morning rush hour yesterday I had 52 unanswered text messages. And you all did not slow down all day. The love we felt as you all asked for updates and shared our joy was overwhelming. Thank you all for the big love!!
