Parker Meets the Twins and Other Updates

Image
Today was an exciting day, Parker finally was able to meet the babies!  Before we got to the hospital he was talking to Caroline and told her he was going to meet his babies, and did she know they had come out?! Since they were born, almost a month ago, he has had to wrap his head around the fact that they were no longer in my belly, but they were not at our house yet.  He has asked me a million times how big they are, and if they're talking yet.  Today, he finally got to see for himself.  Even as we were washing our hands to head into the unit, he was telling us that he could hear them calling his name.  He inspected every part of their bodies, and wanted to see how big their feet and hands were.  However, in a three year old's mind, the most exciting aspect of the trip, was when "Addison pooped in her pants."   This picture is crazy to me because it looks just like one of Kent feeding Parker. The past month has actu...

Growing, Growing, Grown!!

Image
Well, maybe not grown. But finally, after a long four days, the girls have started making forward progress. I love photos of feet and hands!  Last night Sybil had gained 20 grams in 24 hours and Addison had gained 30 grams. You can not imagine how that small amount - 1.76 ounces (total weight gained) caused me so much celebration.  Sybil's feeding increased today from 3.5 ml to 5 ml. Addison still has some issues with eating. They say her stomach is "still waking up". And by eating I mean they feed through a tube down their throat... from a very small syringe. Baby steps! When I got there this morning Sybil was no longer wearing this CPAP with cap on her head. (This photo was last night when Sybil was still wearing the CPAP.) Both girls are now breathing with a nasal cannula. It is much smaller, not pressing on their face or forehead. Another big difference is that we now can see their beautiful heads of hair. I can not wait to see them side by side. Th...

Family of FIVE!

Image
And life begins as a family of FIVE!! Most of yesterday was a blur. When I realized none of us had posted anything and friends were texting to check in on us all, I made a quick post just so everyone knew all are well.  Now for more details.  They came to get Hawley about 2:30 yesterday. When they had everything ready Kent was escorted to the operating room. Hawley was able to stay awake this time, unlike with Parker. Kent was able to be in the room and not stuffed in a broom closet somewhere. Yay!!! Sweet baby Sybil started crying even before she was taken from the warm and cozy home she had been swimming in for the past 7 months.  She weighed in at 3 pounds 1 ounce, 16 inches long, born at 3:27.  Sweet baby Addison was a little stubborn and reluctant to be dislodged from her comfy spot. She weighed in at at 3 pounds 10.9 ounces, 16.5 inches long, born at 3:28.  Note : Parker thinks it is hysterical neither baby has on any clothes ...

laissez les bon temps rouler

Let the good times roll- I feel it is completely appropriate that these girls are going to born on Fat Tuesday, but it slightly scares me to death.  Are children wilder if they are born on Fat Tuesday?  Yes, we're going to have to girls by the end of today!  How did we get here?  I came to the hospital last week with flu like symptoms.  Luckily no flu, but they did find protein in my urine so I was once again given the diagnosis of preeclampsia.  I was discharged on Saturday, and told I would be closely monitored on an outpatient basis.   Kent and I had a perfect date night Saturday night, and we had a great night with Parker on Sunday (he had been at the lake since Thursday).  When we went to the office appointment Monday, it was pretty uneventful.  The ultrasound went great, and we even got a 3D picture of Addison.  I told Kent I hated we couldn't get one of Sybil, but he reminded me that their identical so her pictur...
